This is the companion song to Fuck the Bourgeoisie. It's meant to be self reflective about the hypocrisy and irony of my songs about my ex boyfriend. It's kind of about being a champagne socialist.
Catch a reference to Charles Dicken's Great Expectations and Charles Baudelaire's "Les Yeux Des Pauvres" (read more about this literary reference here: www.jstor.org/stable/24643645?seq=1) .
lyrics
I've been rocking the boat
since I sang my first note
all ye who enter, abandon your hope
people say stay away from the truth
go astray, be aloof
please speak in metaphors
that is what songs are for
don't talk about him, at least use a psuedonym
don't criticize really rich people, the church or the steeple
and can't you see your own reflection in all that you mention?
Everything I sing is so Pornographic, super tragic
Doesn't know how good she's had it
Also rich, hypocrite,
vendetta vixen, biased bitch
I know my greatest pain is my greatest privilege
I was fortunate to get fatter from your food,
I was lucky to get kissed into good moods
Oh, blessed to be near you at all,
let alone to fall in love
I didn't have to finesse that boy for money
cause my demographic's already got it sunny
I praise Daddy Marx, but my real dad pays my credit card
Still I swear I know the most
I took intro to soc
Everything I sing is so Pornographic, super tragic
Doesn't know how good she's had it
Also rich, hypocrite,
vendetta vixen, biased bitch
No I haven't had it hard, but still I nurse a broken heart
for years I've tried to heal it with art, but I know I'll never be okay
I still cry about you everyday
I'm Miss Havisham till I go grey
And isn't this how they rig the game?
Even those winning feel the pain
cause we're standing on a staircase and all we can see
is somebody has it better than me
you're above Earth in a spaceship, that was far away
I couldn't stay
But I'm still at the top of the stairs, I win no points for self-aware
But I really do wish this game was fair
Like Baudelaire walking the boulevard...
Everything I sing is so Pornographic, super tragic
Doesn't know how good she's had it
Also rich, hypocrite,
vendetta vixen, biased bitch
