I had a 6 week fling with a guy who was super, super into me. After only knowing me for a few days, he told me he was saving up to take me on a trip to Argentina. The relationship fell apart when he realized we were "too different" because of his habit of doing drugs and my sobriety. When he broke up with me, the last thing he said was "You deserve someone who is more similar to you and I'm not that man yet."
I was upset at first, and he conveniently did this during finals week. Then I wrote the song and found myself completely over it and happy that I dodged a bullet. I actually forget I even have this song, because the person it's about means so little to me that it slips my mind that I ever cared/wrote about him.
lyrics
I was like a cigarette that you stomped out in regret
you burn through us girls like Marlboro lights
you slept in my bed on an April night
I woke up in a state of fright
you said "baby, don't overreact"
but you were feeling me when my clothes weren't intact
And you said:
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina
Your mom hugged me in the entryway
you started smoking on the first of May
you called me your cherry blossom
but I was just there so you could say you got some
I feel sick that you know me like you do
my life story in your head like glue
your palm resting on my thigh, couldn't stay here
cause you had to get high
And you said:
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina
you said our souls were bonded together
that no matter what, they were linked forever
on top of the world, that's where they got tethered
I'm foolish for thinking life was getting better
you ended up leaving like your father, unbothered
I think of your talk of dying in the water
you believed in God, and I believed in you
but we're so naive because neither are true
And you said:
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina
I'm not yet the man you deserve so I'll see ya
I wanna take you to Argentina...
